Happy Last Week of School!
Summer homework packets will be sent home this week. These packets are due back on the first day of the 2017-2018 school year.

Our virtue for May is Gentleness. This week we are finishing Ch. 21- Eternal Life with God. In this chapter, we will look at the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Last Judgement.
We are finishing Chapter 13: Area and Perimeter. This week, will review perimeter and area, including finding unknown measures and finding the area of combined rectangles. In addition, students will have the opportunity to retest over Ch. 12 on Wednesday. There will be no timed test this week.
This week, students will have the opportunity to teach the teacher. Each student will pick a science-related topic and develop a brief “lesson plan” to teach their class about the topic.

Mrs. Woeltje (3rd grade substitute) is teaching Social Studies to the 4th graders for the remainder of this year. The 4th graders go to her room Monday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons. They are currently studying the Regions of the United States.
In writing, we are working on a research project on inventors and inventions. This week, we will continue drafting our papers, focusing on leads, thesis statements, and topic sentences. Final Drafts are due Tuesday, May 16th.
New Spelling Sorts are introduced on Mondays. We will test on these words on Fridays.
We will introduce new vocabulary units on Thursdays. We will now practice the units for 2 weeks each, and then test the following Wednesday. Activities to practice the vocabulary words are found on the Publisher’s Website https://www.sadlierconnect.com/vw/vocabularyworkshop.com. We are the orange level.
Our reading comprehension skill for the week is making generalizations.
Our grammar skill for the week is negative adverbs.
